Hexagons and Ruffles

Have you ever had one of those projects that you started and then became side tracked by another project...and another...and another, until you completely forgot about it? That is this little hexagon quilt.  A few years ago I absolutely fell in love with Kate Spain's Fandango line.  I bought a layer cake and some yardage and started making this quilt.  Have you ever made hexi's out of a layer cake? Its super easy and they come together quite nicely because you piece them in rows.

Today this little quilt was pulled back out.  I have a few fun ideas on how to finish it and one of them is a ruffled inner border. I love a ruffled border, but hate the time it takes to pull threads.

I'm thinking the aqua in this line will go nicely with my house.  Perhaps that's why I love this line so much.

Today I'm linking up with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.

Baby Love

I'm not sure what it is lately, but I've been surrounded by people having adorable little babies. Even Will and Kate recently welcomed a new bundle of joy (admittedly, I am a closet Anglophile and adore the British royals).  My baby is now 1 1/2 and I'm ready to have another one but hubby is not. So since it will be a few years until I can hold my own little newborn, I'm living vicariously through a friend of mine who welcomed a new baby girl today.  I don't get to sew girly things very often and had so much fun making this quilt.  I just love pink! And scallops. And chevrons.  And monograms.

This is the second quilt I've quilted myself.  This is a big step for me as I've always sent my quilts out to professional quilters because the task of quilting seemed too daunting.  There's no free motion quilting on this, all straight lines with a walking foot, but hopefully sometime soon I'll feel confident enough to try to free motion a quilt. This quilt pattern will not be available through a tutorial.  I am working on putting together patterns that will be available through and Etsy shop.

Summer Days

I can hardly believe it's August.  This summer really has flown by and blogging has taken a back seat to  playing with my boys, camping, boating, and several trips home to Idaho.  I can't tell you how many different tutorials I've started and never gotten around to finishing. School will be starting in a few weeks and hopefully things will settle down enough so I can show you a few new quilt patterns I've been working on.

A few weeks ago my oldest little boy turned 8.  EIGHT.  Its been a hard age for me to wrap my mind around.  I think one of the main reasons is that in my mind OLD people have 8 year old kids, and I don't feel that old at 29.

In our church, children are baptized at 8 years old. My little guy will be getting baptized in September and one of my dear friends took time out of her busy schedule to snap a few pictures of him for announcements. He looks so grown up in his little suit.  I sure love that kid.

So a few of the tutorials I've been working on include DIY board and batten...

and some pocket throw pillows with piping for my bedroom re-style series.

Also, I will be doing Part Three of my Quilting 101 series (you can find Part One here and Part Two here) on half-square triangles and will be using this fabric to make a sweet baby girl quilt.

Here's to hoping at least one of these tutorials ends up on the blog by the end of the week...
