Snowman Quilt

The snow is melting and its time to break out the spring decor.  Each spring its hard to say good bye to our favorite Snowman quilt.

This quilt was made by my mother-in-law.  I never met my mother in law.  She passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm in 2001, before I ever met my husband.  She had a few quilts in progress when she passed away, and this snowman quilt was one of them.

In 2005, my husband and his siblings finally divided up her estate, and we were lucky enough to get two of the quilt tops she had been working on.  This one was almost complete and she even had the backing for it. A few years later, I got the idea to finish it for my husband for a Christmas present.  There really wasn't much left to do on it, so I can hardly take credit for any of it.  After finishing up the few loose ends, I picked out a binding fabric, and sent it off to be quilted. I'll never forget the look on my husband's face when he opened it up that Christmas morning. Its definitely a treasure for our family to have something that she made.  You can't snuggle up in it without thinking of her.  Quilts truly are a handmade treasure. Each November when the weather starts to get chilly, we pull it out and snuggle up with it all winter. Its nice to have a little piece of my mother-in-law's handiwork in our home, and a blessing to see my boys snuggle up in something she made.
